For Once In My Life I Like Running!

Writer: Jordan ReneJordan Rene

This is so cheesy but for the first time ever I actually enjoy running. For those who don't know me I spent the majority of my life playing soccer, not kidding since I was 3 until I was 21. That being said I was so active for all of those years of my life. I never worked out outside of soccer because I spent so much time training and I hated running because it was used as a punishment in my sport.

After quitting soccer I kept my same okay--ish diet but that wasn't healthy at all because I was no longer working out like I used to and wasn't burning sufficient calories to keep off weight. This being said I gained around 10 pounds FAST, it took like a month for me to gain 10 pounds and I haven't really tried to lose this weight since I gained it. I told myself everyday that I was fat and I didn't like how I looked and I complained to my boyfriend all the time. Yet, I never did anything to change, nothing in my diet, nothing in working out, literally nothing at all.

Now I shouldn't be thankful for this time in my life because there's so much negativity going on with COVID-19 and everything surrounding it but I am thankful because I started my fitness journey. Outside of times like these I work full-time retail and I always told myself that I didn't have time to work out, I was lying to myself. But now that I have all this time to myself I started working out. Let me explain how.

So it all started out of boredom and I was walking with my mom, who walks everyday, we were walking anywhere form 3-5 miles a day. That was a lot of fun because we spent a lot of time together. Then I remembered that I live right next to a moderate 5 mile hike. So I started doing that hike everyday with my boyfriend, then he got busy, so I started going everyday by myself or my mom would join me. This hike has a few good hills that took me about two week to get used to. My mom does this one walk that is so hard so I always avoided going with her but I went once and it was hard and then slowly I went more and more, by the last time I went I felt good doing the walk and it wasn't so challenging anymore! At this point I was really starting to feel a difference in my physical health and I wasn't as out of breath nearly as much as I was before. Just a few days ago I decided that I would start running and I didn't realize how much I could run without being super tired and I was ENJOYING it!! So this is how I slowly started running/ working out in quarantine.

For those who don't know me I have never enjoyed working out or running unless I am playing soccer so this is a huge accomplishment for me. If you want to follow along with me check out my Instagram highlight that is dedicated to the runs and workouts that I do!

So I am so happy to have this time to focus on my health and I personally want to keep this up after life goes back to normal and I want to start to incorporate weights and what not when I can get back in the gym. Overall I am very grateful for this time and I am happy that I could turn these untelling times into a positive for my health and getting out and being active.

Leave me a comment below to chat with me. I would love to talk about your fitness journey and how you got started too or be your motivation to start!

Thank you so much for reading my little story about working out! Learning what to eat is next, stay tuned for that journey when it finally hits.

xo,

Jordan Rene
